What we test
Measures a player's technical proficiency and speed while maintaining close control of the ball through a set course.
Assesses a player's first touch and ability to immediately control and position a ball received from an aerial or grounded pass
Measures a player's straight-line acceleration (10m) and maximum speed (20m) over short distances.
Measures a player's ability to rapidly change direction while maintaining speed and balance over a designated course.
Measures change of direction speed (CODS), assessing how quickly a player can perform sharp, non-consecutive cuts and turns.
Measures the combined ability to perform the Arrowhead Test while maintaining ball control throughout the course.
Measures lower body power and explosive strength by assessing the maximum horizontal distance a player can jump from a standstill.
Measures a player's overall stature (standing) and trunk/leg length ratio (sitting height).
Why it matters
It assesses the ability to quickly and accurately move the ball in game situations, which is crucial for attacking, escaping pressure, and maintaining possession.
A good first touch is fundamental for reducing time wasted in possession, enabling quicker passing, shooting, or dribbling decisions.
Speed is vital for outrunning opponents to chase a ball, making recovery runs, or gaining an initial advantage in a tackle or breakaway.
Good agility allows players to quickly evade defenders, adjust their positioning, or react to dynamic game situations with efficiency.
This test is highly relevant to soccer as players rarely run in straight lines and must frequently perform quick, sharp directional changes without the ball.
This provides a sport-specific measure of a player's ability to maneuver the ball effectively while performing the necessary quick directional changes required in a match.
Strong lower body power contributes to jumping for headers, powerful kicks, quick bursts of acceleration, and overall stability on the field.
These basic measures are used to track growth and inform physical development or injury prevention strategies.
